Orthodontic treatment with traditional braces can dramatically improve your personal appearance. Improving the health of your teeth and gums will likely increase your self-esteem too. For the vast majority of patients, wearing braces is an important part of treatment. And those braces, for the most part, are the familiar silvery-metal type.
Typically made of high-grade stainless steel, traditional metal braces remain by far the most common type of fixed braces. They consist of metal bands that wrap around back molars. As well as smaller metal brackets that are cemented to the front surfaces of the other teeth. Then, there’s a thin, springy metal wire that runs through the brackets and gently guides teeth into proper position. Your dentist affixes this wire to the brackets with flexible elastics, metal ties, or other types of clasps.
Why do dentists still use metal braces more than any other type available? Reliable, effective, and economical—traditional metal braces are a time-tested option that does not disappoint. Moreover, today’s metal braces are smaller, lighter, and more comfortable to wear than ever before. Additionally, the option of choosing your own set of elastic colors lends to a less traditional look. Certainly, we would be glad to answer all of your questions and see if traditional braces are right for you!
