What Is a CBCT?

In this video, Dr. Chris Powell explains Cone Beam CT technology and how it is an essential tool in the successful placement of dental implants.

People often inquire about what a CBCT scan is. Essentially, it is a type of X-ray that allows us to view your mouth and surrounding structures in three dimensions. Unlike traditional X-rays, which provide only a two-dimensional image, a CBCT scan offers detailed, three-dimensional visuals. This depth of detail is crucial because with standard X-rays, we lack the ability to accurately perceive depth, measure distances, or fully understand the spatial relationships between various structures.

With a CBCT scan, I am equipped to accurately place implants and meticulously plan any restorative dental procedures. This technology significantly reduces guesswork related to the size, shape, and spacing of important anatomical features, enhancing the precision of treatments. It’s important to ensure that your dental care provider utilizes advanced technology like CBCT to deliver high-quality dental care effectively.
