What Are Dental Sealants?

In this video, Dr. Chris Powell explains the benefits of dental sealants, a thin protective layer that prevents cavities, especially in children, for long-term oral health.

Dental sealants are a highly effective preventive treatment. They consist of a thin layer of plastic applied to the surface of teeth to protect against decay. This simple procedure forms a barrier that shields the tooth from harmful bacteria and acids, significantly reducing the risk of cavities.

I recommend dental sealants for children as a proactive measure against decay. Many of my patients, even those in their twenties and beyond, who had sealants applied in their youth, have never experienced a cavity. It’s a testament to the effectiveness of this treatment in maintaining oral health over the long term.
