How Do You Treat Gum Disease?
In this video, Dr. Chris Powell explains how gum disease is treated with a combination of deep cleanings and regular follow-up visits to prevent recurrence.
People often ask how gum disease is treated. Typically, the process involves numbing half of your mouth. The dental hygienist then uses ultrasonic scalers to thoroughly clean and rinse below the gum line, removing plaque and tartar. This procedure usually takes about an hour per half of the mouth, so we often schedule it over two appointments.
After the initial deep cleaning, it is crucial to maintain regular dental visits every three to four months. These follow-up cleanings help prevent the recurrence of gum disease, which can reappear if not managed properly. Regular maintenance is key to keeping gum disease at bay.
