The cone beam is similar to X-rays but is converted into a three-dimensional view. During the scan, the cone-shaped beam rotates around the patient’s mouth, providing a three-dimensional picture. Dr. Anthony Atala, of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine Winston-Salem, NC, says the research is promising. “It shows what can happen in the laboratory when it comes to developing human-like tissue,” Atala said.
