Dental Care Myths

Dental Care Myths Busted | Carolina Dental Arts | North CarolinaA visit to the dentist can be a bit overwhelming for many people. Perhaps that is the reason why there are so many people who try to reschedule their dental visits even after a period of six months or so. Too much stress and anxiety about visiting a dental clinic have given birth to several dental myths that may be even more nerve-wracking for you. These dental myths have typically spread through word of mouth. With time they have become ingrained in the culture so much that it is tough for many to make out the difference between fact and fiction.

Myth #1: It is bad to brush bleeding gums

There is absolutely no truth in this myth. That’s because brushing is good for your tongue, gums, and teeth. When you carefully brush all these areas in your mouth, it remains free of plaque. Plaque is the main culprit that causes serious conditions including gingivitis, inflammation and gum diseases. The gums can get extremely inflamed due to plaque and start bleeding if it is not taken out.

Myth #2: White teeth indicates good health always

It is a false perception because though your teeth may appear white, it does not mean that there are no cavities or infections between your teeth. All individuals do not enjoy the same natural color as far as their teeth are concerned. So there may be people whose teeth are darker and yet healthier than the other person sitting next to him.
